inVIOLata
A concert filled with the musical moods and modes of Josquin’s era, sung instrumentally on Renaissance strings. Nota Bene plays a matched set of Renaissance viols; Mark Rimple joins them playing Renaissance lute and viol.
Nota Bene is devoted to the rich repertoire of vocal and instrumental polyphony that arose on the European Continent and England along with so many other new social constructs, aided in large part by the printing press. At a time when people were questioning their place in society, in the expansion of the known world, in the decisions of government, in their personal faith, and in the cosmos itself, polyphony reflected the human struggle to be both individual and interconnected.
Mark Rimple plays medieval and Renaissance lute, archlute, cittern, and other plucked, stringed instruments. He is a founding member of the vocal-instrumental early music ensemble Trefoil and has frequently appeared with Newberry Consort, Piffaro, Tempesta di Mare and other leading early music ensembles.
