A Recorder Workshop with The Farallon Recorder Quartet

Saturday, April 23, 2022, 9:30 am-4:30 pm
Saint George’s Episcopal Church | 915 N. Oakland St. | Arlington, VA

Spend a day working on aspects of ensemble playingwith the members of The Farallon Recorder Quartet. Performers and teachers extraordinaire Miyo Aoki, Letitia Berlin, Frances Blaker, and Vicki Boeckman lead consort size in music selected from the many eras of recorder music and share their insights on how to create an ideal ensemble

Open to intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced recorder players who play SAT and either Bass or alto8ve. Pitch A=440.

The day will be divided into four class periods with mid-morning, lunch, and mid-afternoon breaks.

The first period will begin with an all-workshop discussion/demonstration by the Quartet of how they approach common aspects and challenges of ensemble playing, such as intonation, determining the tempo and affect of a piece, choosing among rhythmic and articulation options, and general rehearsal strategies. Participants will then break into their consort size classes, sorted by playing level, and continue this session with one of the members of the Quartet .

In the remaining three periods, each consort class will be led by a different member of the Quartet. They have chosen a variety of music, including music by composers featured in Friday night’s There and Back Again concert.

Tuition: $95 | WRS members $80 | Students $50 |
Workshop/Concert Special $125 (workshop registration and one ticket to There and Back Again  concert on April 22)

Covid 19 Policy Capitol Early Music is determined to provide a safe and comfortable experience at our workshops. Because recorder players at this workshop will be unmasked while playing in their consort classes, we require that all participants in this workshop be fully vaccinated, including one booster. We will verify vaccination certification.  In addition, when not in their classroom, participants will be required to wear a mask while indoors.  We hope for good weather so as to have check-in, breaks and lunch in Saint George’s outdoor patio.

We appreciate your cooperation to keep everyone as safe as possible as we navigate these difficult times.
