A Workshop for Mixed Ensemble of Lutes, Winds, Strings
and other soft instruments
with the Abella Harp Consort

Lutenists, wind and string players, please join the Abella Harp Consort for a mixed consort workshop. We’ll be focusing on music of the sixteenth century: frottolas, madrigals, dances etc. Flutes, harps and other soft instruments are welcome as well as lutes, viols and recorders. We’ll explore the rich and varied sonorities that come with combining instruments from different families. We’ll give tips on arranging for mixed ensembles and we’ll work on phrasing and interpretation to bring out the inherent beauty of this music.
Open to intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced players of lute, harp, viol, vielle, recorder, flute and other soft instruments or voice. Recorder players should play SATB and be familiar with alto up an octave.
Schedule: The day will be divided into four class periods with mid-morning, lunch, and mid-afternoon breaks. Each period will consist of ensemble classes of 4-7 players, with each class composed of mixed instrumentalists. Each ensemble class will be taught by a different member of the Abella Harp Consort each period.

Music will be provided in advance.

Workshop/Concert Discounted concert ticket – $35 (one ticket to the concert on February 23 for workshop registrant)
CANCELLATION POLICY: All but $10 refundable until February 15. Refunds thereafter only because of illness.
Cancellation due to illness: Tuition will be refunded at any time for cancellation due to illness. Workshop participants are not required to submit a negative Covid test before attending the workshop. But, if you have been ill with flu, RSV, Covid-19, or other respiratory illness, please do not attend the workshop unless you have been symptom-free for 24 hours before the workshop.
REGISTER EARLY – Workshop numbers are limited to a comfortable size for each consort. Registrations after February 8 will incur a $10 late registration fee.
