September 7, 2024 – New World Recorders

Finding Meaning in Musical Forms

A Recorder Workshop | September 7, 2024 | 9:30-4:30
Saint George’s Episcopal Church
915 N. Oakland | Arlington, VA

How does an overture musically differ from a fugue? What is musically significant in the form of a rondeau? How does the form of a piece of music affect how we should approach playing it?  The members of New World Recorders (Rainer Beckmann, Héloïse Degrugillier, Gwyn Roberts and Sarah Shodja) tackle these questions and more in an all-day workshop for recorders focused on musical forms.

Open to intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced recorder players who play SAT and either Bass or Alto8ve. Pitch A=440.

Schedule: The day will be divided into four class periods with mid-morning, lunch, and mid-afternoon breaks.

The first period is an all-workshop discussion/demonstration of musical form by the members of New World Recorders. For the following three periods, we’ll break into four ensemble size classes, each led by a member of the Ensemble.  Each period will focus on a different musical form. In each period, your ensemble will be taught by a different member of New World Recorders.

All workshop participants are expected to abide by Capitol Early Music’s Code of Conduct.
