This vocal and instrumental Medieval ensemble returns to CEM with a concert of beautiful melodies, intricate polyphony, and boisterous dances drawn from the rich tapestry of Marian music from 14th and 15th century Spain. From the viol consort that is “one of the brightest lights in New York’s early-music scene” (The New Yorker), an exploration of this rich and varied repertoire from the luminous fantasies of William Byrd and his contemporaries, to the artful reworking of folk tunes, and the boisterous music of Tobias Hume. J. S. Bach’s iconic, encyclopedic, and unfinished last word on his signature musical form – performed by four recorder players with a deep affinity for Bach and a like-minded approach to their instrument.
